Chai AI is having its worst month since launch. In the span of three weeks, the platform blocked free access in over 22 countries, rolled out token limits that freeze conversations mid-sentence, and remains stubbornly text-only while competitors offer voice, images, and video.

Starting February 18, users reported a new token limit system. Free users get roughly 70 messages every 2.5 hours. Hit the cap and the app locks you out with no countdown and no explanation of when it resets.

The problem is not limited to free users. Paying subscribers report the same token freezes, with some waiting over a week for limits to reset. Long responses and roleplay burn through quotas in minutes.
