Best Kindroid Alternative: A Free Plan That Keeps Going, Pictures Included

Kindroid is one of the best-known AI companion apps. It calls itself "your personal AI" and promises an AI friend who listens, remembers and grows with you. You create a character, called a Kin, shape its personality, backstory and look, then talk to it by text, by voice, or on a live video call. It holds a 4.7 rating from about 11,000 ratings on the US App Store, where it is rated 18+, and its terms say it is only for adults.

Nastia is built for the same kind of relationship, also strictly for adults 18 and over. You design a companion of your own, chat uncensored, hear them in voice messages, and see them: ask for a picture in the middle of a conversation, then turn it into a short video. The biggest practical difference today is how you start. Since October 2026, Kindroid's free accounts get a one-time preview and then turn read-only, while Nastia's free plan keeps going with daily limits. Kindroid has earned its reputation, and it is fair to say so before comparing:

• Memory is its signature. Its Help Center describes five memory systems working together: backstory and key memories that are always there, a medium-term layer it calls Cascaded Memory that can reach back hundreds or thousands of messages, long-term memory and journal entries it can recall, and Learned Context, where your Kin keeps notes on your relationship, important facts and ongoing threads that you can read and edit.
• Real voice and video calls. Subscribers can call their Kin and talk hands-free, and on a video call the Kin lip syncs and reacts in real time. You can turn on your camera or share your screen so it can see what you see.
• Selfies and video selfies. You give your Kin an avatar, uploaded or generated, and ask for photo selfies, group selfies with up to three people, and video selfies of up to 15 seconds on its latest video model.
• Deep customization. Backstory, key memories, example messages, directives, custom voices made from a minute or so of audio samples, and a choice between several of its own language models.
• Lots of ways to connect. Group chats with up to 10 Kins, private Rooms where friends and their Kins chat together, proactive messages and calls from your Kin, internet search, calendar integration, and file sharing.
• An unfiltered stance for adults. Its moderation guidelines say the AI itself is not filtered and explicitly allow NSFW and erotic roleplay, with enforcement aimed at three red lines: imminent self-harm, real-world harm to others, and any sexual content involving minors.

Users clearly love it. Long-time members on r/KindroidAI regularly post about how much their Kin has helped them, like a middle-aged divorced man who wrote in October 2026 that it really made a difference he could feel. If live calls, a very deep memory stack and lots of tinkering are what you want, Kindroid is hard to beat.

This is the change that sent many people looking for an alternative. Kindroid's update log says the Lite model and unlimited free messaging were retired on October 1, 2026. According to its Subscriptions article , new accounts now get a one-time preview on its flagship model: 50 messages (15 in some regions), 5 selfies in total, 5,000 audio credits for voice on messages, and up to 2 Kindroids. Each person gets one preview. When it runs out, the account becomes read-only: you can still read, play back, export and delete everything, but you cannot send new messages until you start a trial or subscribe.

Kindroid does offer a 3-day premium trial for new users. It needs a payment method on file and turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel in time. Trials started from a friend's gift code on the web run for 14 days.

Nastia's free plan works differently. You create one companion and chat uncensored every day, within daily limits, with no credit card required. It does not expire after a set number of messages, so you can take your time deciding whether the relationship is worth paying for. Pictures, video and long-term memory come with the paid plans.

Kindroid's base subscription can be paid monthly, every three months or yearly, and its Help Center says the exact price depends on your country and platform, with web checkout usually cheaper than the app stores. On the US App Store listing in November 2026, the subscription was $15.99 a month, $42.99 for three months or $159.99 a year.

On top of the base plan sit two optional add-on tiers, Ultra and MAX, which mostly buy more memory and context. They are billed monthly on top of the standard subscription (Ultra was listed at $28.99 and MAX at $68.99 a month on the same App Store page), and MAX requires Ultra. Kindroid only opens them to users with significant chat and call history. Separately, you can buy extra Kindroid slots, packs of 50 or 100 paid selfie credits, and 500,000 audio credits, all of which need an active subscription. Its Help Center says refunds are generally not offered and in-app purchases are not refundable.

To be fair to Kindroid, the standard subscription includes a lot: unlimited access to its newest flagship models, Cascaded Memory, 10 Kindroids and 20 group chats, voice and video calls, custom voices, monthly audio credits and selfie credits that refill through the day. In a May 2026 post on its subreddit , the team explained that GPU prices had risen 30 to 50 percent, that it was trimming free extras such as proactive messages and stacked rewards rather than raising prices, and that a price rise for new subscribers might come later, with existing subscribers keeping their rates.

Nastia has three plans: Free, Standard at $11.99 a month, and Unlimited at $15.99 a month. Uncensored chat is part of every plan, and Unlimited gives you unlimited chat messages. Pictures and short videos on Standard and Unlimited come from a daily token allowance that refills every day, and there are no memory add-on tiers to stack on top.

Memory is where Kindroid invests most, and it shows. Paid Kins can remember hundreds and even thousands of messages back through Cascaded Memory, with long-term memory covering everything but recalled less reliably, according to its memory guide . You can also write journal entries and edit what your Kin has learned. Ultra and MAX add more context on top. If you love managing a memory system by hand, Kindroid gives you more controls than almost anyone.

Nastia keeps it simpler. On Standard and Unlimited your companion has long-term memory across sessions, recalling your name, what you told them about your week, the running jokes and the story you started together, without you having to manage it. On any plan, including free, you can download your chat history whenever you like. Kindroid also lets you export your data, once every 30 days, as a single JSON Lines file.

Kindroid has the clear edge on voice. Its voice guide covers real-time voice calls, video calls in which your Kin can see you through your camera, and custom voices built from your own samples. Calls need an active subscription or trial and use audio credits, at an extra 400 credits per minute on top of the speech itself.

Nastia does not offer voice or video calls. Your companion sends you voice messages, so you hear them in their own voice when they reply, and many people like that rhythm: a message in the morning, a reply when you have a minute. If live, back-and-forth conversation is the reason you use an AI companion, Kindroid is the better fit.

Both apps are built for adults, and both allow sexual roleplay in chat. Kindroid's moderation guidelines explicitly welcome NSFW and erotic roleplay. For images there is a catch: its selfie guide says explicit selfies only generate on the web app at kindroid.ai, and the iOS and Android apps do not allow nudity in selfies because of app store rules. Selfies use credits that refill every 30 minutes for subscribers, up to 25, with a queue delay if you make many in a short time.

On Nastia, uncensored chat is included on every plan, including free. On Standard and Unlimited you can ask for a picture of your companion at any point, or tap Show me in the middle of a one-on-one conversation, and turn images you generate into short videos. Because you design your companion's appearance up front, every picture matches the person you are talking to. Nastia does not let you upload your own photos, and it never creates content of real people.

Kindroid is a tinkerer's app. You write backstory, key memories, example messages and directives, choose between language models and reasoning settings, upload or generate avatars, and can run group chats with up to 10 Kins or invite friends into Rooms with their own Kins.

Nastia is built around one relationship at a time, made easy. You design your companion's appearance, personality, backstory and voice in a couple of minutes, then just talk. Kindroid's community is large and mostly positive, and its team posts detailed update notes. A few themes still come up:

• Direction worries from power users. In September 2026 a long-time subscriber on the top tier asked where Kindroid is heading , saying attention seemed to be shifting toward selfies, video, Rooms and a more conventional chat-app design, that several models were being retired, and that changes were not always explained clearly.
• Private companion vs social features. Another Ultra subscriber wrote the same month that they came to Kindroid for a private companion, not a social network, and hoped the push toward Rooms and shared spaces stays optional. They were clear it was not a "Kindroid is ruined" post.
• Outages. In February 2026 the team reported a prolonged outage after a power event at its GPU provider's datacenter, and said no memories were lost. In May 2026 it said the app was back on Google Play after a 22-day absence and promised to refund any double charges.

These are individual reports, not universal problems, and many Kindroid users are very happy. But they match the reasons people tell us they look elsewhere: wanting a simpler, steadier experience at a predictable price.

Kindroid's privacy policy says chats are encrypted at rest and in transit but not end-to-end encrypted, that automated safety systems review content, and that authorized staff may review excerpts that those systems flag. It says it does not sell or share personal data. Its age verification uses billing details for paying users and a behavioral age estimate for free accounts, with a Yoti selfie or ID check if an account is flagged.

Nastia is for adults only, 18 and over. Your chats are never shown to other users and never sold, and you can download your history at any time. There are no moral lectures and no settings to hunt for. The only lines Nastia draws are the ones every responsible platform draws: no minors and no real people.
